Class description:
Mitsy Kit Advanced Sewing Class – Learn a new block of the month:
The intent of these classes is to teach folks how to piece together new quilt block designs so that folks can then choose whether they want to make the quilt blocks into a simple wall hanging or table topper, or to go on to make and attach multiple blocks into a quilt.
These email classes will be scheduled once per month starting in June on the 4th Saturday of the month. In general, if you want to purchase the Mitsy Kit fabric and or the tactile sewing guides please plan to order at least two weeks in advance of the scheduled class.
Skills needed:
The pre-requisites for these classes will include ability to thread a hand sewing needle, tie a knot at end of thread, tie off the thread in project, ironing of fabric squares and triangles, piecing – pinning or clipping of fabric pieces together, and performing a simple running stitch. If folks already know how to use a sewing machine, they can also choose to put the quilt square blocks together with a sewing machine using their own machine seam guides.
Supply list:
Projects will use ten-inch cotton squares, half-square cotton triangles, and occasionally some cotton circles, cotton strips of fabric, and other accessories depending on the quilt block of the month design. Folks can choose to purchase the pre-cut fabric pieces from Mitsy Kit or they can pre-cut their own fabric prior to class. Projects will also use Mitsy Kit tactile seam allowance guides which are pre-cut 1/4″ felt strips with sticky backs that are applied to the edges of the fabric pieces to guide the straight stitching of seam allowances. These felt, sticky back, tactile seam guides eliminate the need for the previous Mitsy Kit method of a threaded tactile border pre-sewn on fabric pieces, providing more flexibility for folks to use their own choice of fabric for each project.
